The facts are clear - social housing is the route out of homelessness. More affordable homes mean that everyone, not just the lucky few, can have a safe place to call home.
But the government is acting as if the facts don’t matter. Budgets to build social housing have been slashed, leaving social housing construction at its lowest rate since 2016.
It’s a national shame. This failure to act means that tonight, a record-breaking 15,625 households - including 9,860 children - will sleep under a roof that’s not their own.
